In The Field

Our trip to Limbe, Haiti was a life changing experience for me. I’m Abdoulaye S. , I was born and raised in cote D’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and moved to the United States about six years ago at age 12. I remember seeing and hearing news about the poor living conditions in Haiti and how difficult it continues to be for residents to make a living for themselves and their families. I never thought that one day I would be able to be  apart of one of the most wonderful nonprofit organizations that both builds and supports the people of Haiti. It all started with a conversation with Mrs. Solitaire about how she was going to have fun and give back while in Haiti, when little that I know she had already signed me up and got me ready for the trip. It was an opportunity of a lifetime that I couldn’t afford to pass on.

On our first day in Haiti, we spent the day in deep discussion with some people there who shared the same ideas and visions that we had for Haiti. Talking with them really showed us that the good ideas full of ingenuity but the lack of resources make it difficult for anything to come true. The next day began with a women’s conference to talk about current health practices. We had the opportunity to connect the community to licensed nurses and doctors who came to talk to them on how to properly sanitizes their cooking materials and clean toiletries, among other things. Over 230 people filled the center to get help and to learn on how to be and stay in good health. After the conference we provided each person with food and drinks. Finally, on the last two days we spent one day at one clinic, allowing anyone to come get checked out by a doctor, get treated, and get medications, all free of charge.

Interacting with all the people present to the events was unexplainable, they’re smart people and know what they have and how to make the most out of it. They take nothing for granted, they welcome us with love and respect. They taught me one of the important things: it doesn’t take much to be happy. All we can do is help them turn their ideas into reality by providing resources for them financially, helping to next generation have something to hold on to.

Every donation made to One Sparrow helps us connect people to the resources needed to fulfill the great new projects that we are funding over the next 6 months.
